Update on the OpenStreetMap coastline data quality

In April I wrote in detail about the quality of the Openstreetmap coastline data. I have now produced an update to that with new analysis maps that also include the new Antarctica data and a list of other larger coastline changes that have been made in the meantime.

When looking at coastline changes the question arises what larger changes there might be in the future. Of course there will likely be further improvements of areas currently mapped with low detail as pointed out in my analysis. But the more interesting question is what are the largest features fully missing, most obvious in case of islands. This is something the analysis of existing data alone will not tell. And I do not know this for sure either of course but i can venture a guess. So here the – certainly incomplete – list of larger islands currently missing as coastlines is Openstreetmap:
